It appears the mythical Sasquatch is alive, well—and now trying his hand at home selling. Kind of. But conspiracy theorists might want to pause before getting too excited about this so-called bigfoot sighting because all is not quite as it seems.
In a bid to help one Poconos property stand out from the crowd, the listing agent gamely donned a bigfoot ensemble and posed in a variety of funny settings around the home, from lounging in bed to cooking up a storm in the kitchen. And all while wearing a pair of sunglasses for added effect.
“In this listing, it is me dressed as Sasquatch. I did it all for this one,” admits Jonathan Dempsey with HomeSmart Realty Advisors. The Clifton Township, PA, property is on the market for $735,000.
While the tactic might seem odd—to say the least—Dempsey says that it has proven to help shift homes in the past.
“We’ve done this, like, four times now, with three of them being pure short-term rental listings,” he says.
This is, however, the first time his Sasquatch photos have appeared on Realtor.com®.
Mountain retreat
Even though the 3,118-square-foot house was recently renovated, he knew he needed to work hard to promote it, Dempsey says.
“The goal is to stand out and get as many views as possible so that people can see themselves there,” he explains. “But we thought it would be a good way to really help people both visualize themselves at the house using some of the amenities, as well as just getting people to send the listing around and possibly find the right buyer for this home.”
At first, the owner was not thrilled.
“I didn’t even tell him I was going to do this for the photos. I’m good friends with him, so I was sure it wasn’t going to ruin my reputation, but he actually didn’t like them at first,” Dempsey says.
He has since warmed up to the idea now that people are looking at the listing. It features an open kitchen and dining room with a fireplace, high chalet ceilings covered in pine tongue-and-groove finish, a sunroom, plus wraparound decks.
The furnished space includes a gym, family room, and lower-level game room with a pool table, Skee-Ball, and arcade machines.
“It’s been very apparent just with the amount of feedback that we’ve gotten, that the house is getting views, and I think that’s what we’re looking for,” Dempsey says.
More than half of the listing photos do not include Sasquatch, but the ones that do show him having fun. And maybe, the next owner should keep a lookout for the elusive creature.
“It’s hard to put your finger on where Sasquatch is indigenous, but if people had to bet, it probably is going to be in this area, or possibly other mountain regions that he could migrate to,” Dempsey says with just a hint of seriousness.
The home’s location is a rare offering, set on 2 acres.
“It might be the only home in the Poconos that’s on 2 acres but is within a community full of amenities,” he says. The neighborhood has a clubhouse, tennis courts, and an indoor pool.
“You have your privacy, but you also get the amenities and features of being in a community,” he adds.
“It’s a really cool house to own,” Dempsey says of the property, which comes fully furnished.
As a short-term rental, it has been rented out for about $400 a night.
‘Game of views’
The home has been on the market for 20 days, and Dempsey is hoping the Sasquatch pictures do the trick.
“With a lot of marketing, any press is good press, for the most part,” Dempsey says. “In real estate, it’s a game of views. You’ve got to get in front of enough people to get that one buyer. I think our chances have increased tremendously this way.”
He adds, “It truly is a unique home, so I’m just waiting for that right person to come around.”
